I John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
Paul stimulates our faith-based “hope” with this Divine Promise: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29). At this point, we simply do not know the full extent of this Holy Promise; but, we do know that our Lord is perfectly righteous, without sin, without blemishes, without frailties, without weakness; and, He is Eternal; in these ways, “we shall be like him”. To “be conformed to the image of his Son” is to “be like him”. Furthermore, He “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself” (Philippians 3:21). Our “vile body” sins, becomes sick, gets old and frail, and eventually dies; but, all these human weaknesses will be left behind when our Lord raises us from the dead and fashions us “like unto his glorious body”. As we reflect upon this sure, Holy Promise we are encouraged and strengthened as we pass through the troubles and trials of this present life; for, we know that an infinitely Better Day is just ahead of us!
