I John 4:2 “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
The “spirit of antichrist” is that wicked force that works among men, which moves them to reject and deny Jesus Christ the Son of God. These wicked folk are not just passive unbelievers, they are “antichrists” (I John 2:18); that is, they openly and aggressively reject Him and deny everything about Him. They often refer to the Word of God, that teaches us of Him, as an accumulation of fairytales. It is true “that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost” (I Corinthians 12:3); but, these “antichrists” are more than just simple unbelievers, they are aggressively working against “Jesus Christ”, His Word, His Church, and His People. The force behind the aggressive “antichrists” is the “antichrist” himself, the devil, the archenemy of “Jesus Christ”. In our day, the “antichrists” are aggressively working to spread their evil in our Government, our media, our schools, and the great institutions of our Country. They are striving to force people to reject “Jesus Christ”, reject His Commandments for morality and integrity and honesty, reject His Church, and reject His Holy Word. In the process they are destroying families, ruining the lives and futures of our young, imperiling our Country, and they are ruining Churches. These “antichrists” began by introducing a little false doctrine that seemed relatively harmless at first, now we see that it was not harmless at all, it is very destructive. In the very face of these vicious “antichrists” we are Commanded to “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58) and to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” and “take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:11-13). May the Lord our merciful and gracious God strengthen us so that it will be said of our generation, “they did not compromise with the devil and his antichrists”!
