I John 4:9 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”
I daily stand in absolute, reverential awe that the Almighty Self-Existing Eternal “God” would “manifest” His “love … toward us” by sending “his only begotten Son into the world”. Twice God the Father was heard saying “This is my beloved Son” (Matthew 3:17; 17:5). Yet, He “sent his” “beloved Son” to die for “us” sinners, to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). That sort of “love” is beyond my comprehension; but, by the “faith” that “God” has given us (Hebrews 11:1; 12:2) we know of a certainty that it is so. Paul tells us that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)! Our human logic says, choose those who are intellectually viable, are moral, are honest, are faithful, and are profitable; and, give them a CHANCE to prove it and choose “God”. But “God” sent His “Beloved Son” to die “for us” when we were none of those things, for we were yet in “sin”; furthermore, until He gave us Spiritual Birth (John 3:1-8), we had absolutely no interest in Him or desire to choose Him. But, because “God” exists in Perfect Righteousness, it was necessary for Him to Execute His Divine Justice to resolve the sin-debt, else we could never come near Him or have a life with Him. And, by sending “his only begotten son into the world”, He fully and finally resolved the sin-debt for all those that He had chosen to “love” (Ephesians 1:4). This sin-debt began when Adam disobeyed “God” (Genesis 3) and all Adam’s posterity has continued to inflate that debt. But now, according to God’s Righteous Judgment, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has washed away our “scarlet” sins and made us “white as snow” (totally sin-free) before Him. Now, we greatly rejoice because we can “therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16) and one Blessed and Holy Day we will see Him for ourselves, our own eyes will gaze with awe upon His Glorious Majesty (Job 19:27), forever!
