2023-05-26 “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar:”

I John 4:20  “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Within each and every “born again” (John 3:1-8) Child of God is the same Spirit of God communicating the “love” and majesty of “God” into the “born again” heart.  The outpouring (“fruit”) of this magnificent “Spirit” of “love” “is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  23  Meekness, temperance” (Galatians 5:22-23).  This indwelling Spirit produces a “new creature” (II Corinthians 5:17) that is guided and motivated by the “love of Christ” (II Corinthians 5:14).  This blessed and holy “love” is totally inconsistent with hatred among the Brethren; for, the “love of God” and hatred for a “brother” in Christ are exact opposites, thy do not abide together.  There are some “that … have not the love of God in” them (John 5:42); these people have plenty of carnal room in their hearts for hatred, and they show it by their demeanor, their speech, and their behavior.  John explains it this way: “for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”!  That is, the loving Spirit of the “God whom” we have “not seen” abides in the Regenerated heart of every Child of God; thus, if a person is “born again”, this blessed “love” is felt and known and acted upon among the Brethren.  There are times and situations in which our carnal nature tries to override the loving Spirit within us and move us to hatred; but, we are commanded to suppress our carnal nature; for, “this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also” (I John 4:21)!  We’re none perfect; but, I rejoice to be among Brethren and Sisters that “love” one another and look over each other’s faults and failings.  Our Lord gave us a perfect pattern, “example” of this Blessed “love” when He, knowing that Peter would curse and deny Him (Matthew 26:34), yet He knelt down and loving washed His feet (John 13:6-9)!
