I John 5:6 “This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.”
In a world where corruption and dishonesty and confusion must be anticipated and accounted for, the Children of God are comforted by the presence and leadership of “the Spirit” Who “is truth”. Living in this present world is often like walking through a swamp full of snakes and many other creatures that seem to enjoy doing harm to us. But, in contrast to the world, the Holy “Spirit” is reliably true in every way. The “Spirit is truth”; for, He is the very essence of “truth” for He is perfect in the Godhead and everything He does and says is perfect according to the will of God the Father and God the Son. The Word of God (the Bible) can be entirely relied upon as true; for, “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:21), Who “is truth”. Our Lord told His Disciples that “when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13). That is, “the Spirit of truth” always accurately directs and guides us according to the will of God the Father and God the Son. Furthermore, because the Word of God is true, the perfect test for whether the “Spirit” of God or our human nature is speaking to us, is whether what is being communicated to our heart’s mind is perfectly consistent with the Word of God. Thus, preachers are Commanded to exclusively “preach the word” (II Timothy 4:2) and faithful Children of God receive “the word with all readiness of mind, and” search “the scriptures daily, whether” the things we hear are “so” (Acts 17:11). The Word of God, given by “the Spirit”, who “is truth”, is so perfectly accurate that the Psalmist tells us that the Word of God “is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105); it will truthfully guide us through this corrupt world! We desperately need this blessed “truth” as the true “guide” Who navigates us through the “world” that “hateth” us ( John 15:19), the “world of sin” (John 16:8), the “world of iniquity” (James 3:6), and the “world of the ungodly” (II Peter 2:5). So, as Paul told Timothy, let us “give attendance to reading” the Word of God (I Timothy 4:13), trusting “the Spirit of truth”.
