Ephesians 6:17  “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

King David “arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day” (II Samuel 23:9-10).  David praised the Lord; declaring, “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:” (Psalms 144:1).  Much like the battles of old, fought on actual battle fields, our Spiritual Warfare against ungodliness, immorality, deceit, dishonesty, and all manner of sin will be won with “the sword of the Spirit”!  When we go into battle holding “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”, the battle is often grievous, but victory is assured!  The battle against sin and sinfulness in our Country is already won, our great adversary just doesn’t know it yet.  That little band of soldiers that followed Gideon into battle, “cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon” (Judges 7:20), and the Lord wrought a great victory that day.  There are cries of Victory going up all across our Country as more and more Good Soldiers of Jesus Christ (II Timothy 2:3) take up “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” and prayerfully step onto the battlefield.  The leading edge of this battlefield is in our homes and Churches where we teach and obey “the word of God”.  Skirmishes are breaking out in Government, in education, in business, in entertainment, in social organizations, etc. as faithful Children of God take up “the sword of the Spirit” and courageously go into battle.  We must not get discouraged and withdraw from the battle.  It is true that the battle is often dreadful, but “the word of God” wins every time!  Today, as we celebrate the birth of our Country, let us worship and praise the Lord God Almighty Who gave it to us and has blessed us to live in it; “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (I John 5:4).
