I John 1:1 “The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; 2 For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.”
The Gospel “truth” is the root of “love” that attracts the Children of God to one another and to the Church and securely binds them together. It makes them yearn to see one another and to fellowship and worship together. It makes the Meeting Days the highlights of the week; for, they rejoice to come together in loving fellowship. The “truth” of Jesus Christ, residing in the hearts of “born again” Children of God, is the ingredient that magnetically draws the Children of God together. To have this blessed “truth” is to have the overwhelming force that compels us to “walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” (Ephesians 5:2). Furthermore, “the truth” cries out that Jesus Christ came to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21), “that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (I Corinthians 15:4) and that “he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men” (Ephesians 4:8) and now we rejoice in “the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life” (I John 2:25); for, one Holy Day, “the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (I Thessalonians 4:16-17). Thus, this most precious “love”, is “love” for “the truth’s sake”; that is, “the truth” of Jesus Christ the Son of God, our Lord and Master! It is not because of any natural beauty some may have, because of wealth or high station some may have, because of natural intelligence or wisdom some may have, or because of the natural charisma that some may have; it is for the “sake” of “the truth” Himself, Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
