II John 1:12 “Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.”
It was John’s great desire and intention to visit with them and “speak” “face to face” with them. It is good to send written correspondence, but when we meet “face to face” we are blessed to fellowship together in the Word of God as the Holy Spirit fills and guides us. In our day, we are blessed with many forms of communication, including live videos of worship services; but, there is nothing more delightful than meeting “face to face” to fellowship and worship together. The most pleasant moments in my life are those little seasons in which the Church is gathered together, and all hearts and minds are turned in unison to the Holy Things of our God as the Preacher begins to declare the Sweet Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. In such times the Holy Spirit settles upon us and fills us with “joy unspeakable” (I Peter 1:8). There are times in which the “joy” is so great that folks continue to linger long after the last “Amen”, not wanting to leave such Glorious Fellowship and Exaltation in the Spirit of our God. It is no wonder that the Psalmist wrote, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1). Let us prayerfully look forward to the next Day of Worship, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25).
