Psalms 37:34 “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it”
When “the wicked” are “in great power” (Psalms 37:35) and “the transgressors” (Psalms 37:38) are breeding corruption and there is misery all around, “the LORD” knows all about it. We must not let such times discourage us; but, we are charged to “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way”. To “Wait on the LORD” is to not fall down in despair and allow discouragement to overwhelm us, but we are to spend our time steadfastly “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2), hearing Him say, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalms 46:10), and hearing Moses say “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD” (Exodus 14:13). Even in the very midst of awful trouble, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” (Jeremiah 17:7). And, no matter how difficult things become, we are to “keep” our Lord’s “way”; that is, remain faithfully obedient to Him, always keeping His Commandments even when the Truth and Power and Authority of our God is scoffed at and rejected by others. When we “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way”, “he shall exalt thee to inherit the land”; that is, in a time and manner pleasing to the Lord, “the wicked” shall be “cut off” and His faithful Children will again rejoice in a good season of peace and joy. We can count on it; for “thou shalt see it”!
