Psalms 81:10 “I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
In contrast to the vulgar “strange” “gods” (Psalms 81:9) that Israel was so often drawn to; “God” proclaimed “I am the LORD thy God”. Over and over again, they had forgotten that it was “the LORD” their “God”, not the “strange” “gods”, “which brought” them “out of the land of Egypt” and so wonderfully blessed them. Much like Israel of old, we tend to forget that it was “God” that has “made us” (Psalms 100:3) and has so abundantly blessed us and protected us and sustained us. Yet, “the LORD” our “God” is the “God” of boundless Grace and Mercy. He told Israel and tells us, “open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it”; that is, like the little baby birds that open their mouths “wide” when they hear their mother approaching with food. The little baby birds recognize their mother when she returns to the nest; so, in like manner, we are to pay attention and recognize that it is our Heavenly Father, “the LORD” our “God” that so abundantly blesses us and cares for us. There are always hawks in the area that will steal away the little baby birds if they get the chance; similarly, like the hawks, there are “strange” “gods” that are constantly trying to steal away the little Children of God and draw them away into ruin. Let us hear and heed the Lords Commandment to Israel, “O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.” (Hosea 14:1)!
