Colossians 1:10 “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”
Paul continues his prayer for the Church at Colosse, praying “That” they “might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing”. In the greater view of our Lord’s grace and mercy, the best I can possibly do is not “worthy of the Lord”, not good enough. But, the context here is how sincerely we live out our lives in loving obedient service to our “Lord”. Thus, to “walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing” is to daily “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). To “walk” (live) in a way that is “pleasing” to “the Lord” is to diligently learn His Commandments and obediently keep them (John 14:15). We ought to so carefully keep His Commandments that everyone who sees us and hears of us will be so confident that we are “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God that they would not find it necessary to ask us if we are a Christian. The motivation to “walk worthy of the Lord” is the loving knowledge of our Lord’s love for us, His Sacrifice for us, His daily care and provision for us, and His Heavenly Home that He has prepared for us. This motivating love lifts us above our present troubles and moves us to joyfully sing “I am thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, And it told thy love to me; But I long to rise in the arms of faith, And be closer drawn to Thee.” (Fanny J. Crosby)!
