Colossians 1:10 “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”
Paul continues in his prayer, praying that the Church would be “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power”. The implication is that we are sure to face tribulations that we simply do not have the knowledge, wisdom, nor power to overcome. Therefore, we must look to and rely upon our Sovereign, Omnipotent, and Omniscient God for strength and deliverance. King David was a mighty soldier, but he explained that he was victorious for it was “the LORD” Who was his “strength, which” taught his “hands to war, and” his “fingers to fight” (Psalms 144:1). Paul was a mighty Apostle, but he explained that he could “do all things through Christ which strengtheneth” him (Philippians 4:13). The spiritually wise know that the Lord is the source and “power” of their wisdom and strength. Even the Apostles learned that, when the Lord empowered them with extraordinary abilities, they could walk on the water, heal the sick, and even raise the dead. The Lord’s called ministers soon learn that, although they are just ordinary folks, when the Lord blesses them, they can declare the Gospel of Jesus Christ “in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (I Corinthians 2:4) to comfort and encourage the Lord’s people. All “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God quickly learn that the strength of their faithfulness, is “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Furthermore, we are greatly comforted as we remember our Lord’s blessed words, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). I often marvel at the many devastating tribulations that I have experienced in my life, but my Almighty God was on hand to deliver me through every one of them. Knowing that our loving Lord often reaches down with His Almighty Hands and delivers us from overwhelming tribulations, let us rejoice with king David, who wrote “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.” (Psalms 28:7)!
