Colossians 1:12 “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:”
To be “meet”, in this context, is to be suitable or fit to “be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light”. This use of the word “meet” is derived from the old English word ‘mete’ which means to be the right size and shape. The message to us is that God our beloved “Father” “hath made us meet”; that is, He “hath” made us worthy and “hath” made all necessary changes in us so that we satisfy His purposes for us. In this case, He “hath” prepared us “to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light”. The “saints in light” are those that God the “Father” “hath” illuminated (made to know and understand) the true Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. These blessed “partakers of the inheritance” are those who “have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11), and in this present life they have been made to hear and wonderfully rejoice in the Gospel of Jesus Christ “Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession” (Ephesians 1:13-14). That is, through the Sacrificial Death of His Son, God our “Father” “hath made us meet” for Eternal Life with Him and to worshipfully serve Him in His Church-Kingdom in this present life. Therefore, we ought to “Pray without ceasing” (I Thessalonians 5:17), “Giving thanks unto the Father” Who has so wonderfully and abundantly blessed us.
