Colossians 1:18 “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”
Our Lord was not just in “the beginning”, He “is the beginning”. John tells us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:1-4). And, we are told that “Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:” (Hebrews 1:10). As “the beginning”, our Lord Created all things simply by issuing Commands and they immediately appeared (Genesis 1); thus, all His Creation originated from Him and are because of Him. Furthermore, just as He “is the beginning”, He is also “the end”. Our Lord declared of Himself, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Revelation 22:13). As “the end”, He will issue a Command and “the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up … the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat” (II Peter 3:10-12). But, at “the end”, all the Children of God “shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (I Thessalonians 4:17). It is an indescribably comforting joy to kneel down and worship our Eternal, Sovereign God, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God; knowing that such infinite power and authority resides exclusively within Him!
