Colossians 1:20 “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
The peaceful relationship between God and man was shattered when Adam disobeyed God’s Commandment (Genesis 3:6); that is, he disobeyed God’s Commandment which rendered himself and his entire posterity into a state of sin and bound us all under the guilt of sin. So devastating is this sin-debt, that man simply had and has no righteousness with which to redeem himself. Paul explains that “by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). However, our Lord intervened on our behalf; now “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1) because our Beloved Lord paid our sin-debt by Sacrificing Himself. By His Sacrifice, our Lord Jesus Christ “made peace [with God] through the blood of his cross”; that is, His Sacrificial Death. Because we have this blessed “peace”, we can “therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16); and we spend our time on this earth “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:13)!
