Psalms 130:7 “Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. 8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
To “hope in the LORD” is to look forward to the promised Acts of God, having no doubt that He shall certainly do those things which He “hath promised” (James 2:5; I John 2:25). In the Old Testament times “Israel” looked forward to the coming Messiah and His “redemption”. Now that the Messiah, Savior has come and “hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Timothy 1:9); the “Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16) rejoices “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” (Titus 1:2). The Psalmist explains that the focus of this blessed “hope” is upon the LORD’s “mercy” and His “redemption”. Out of His blessed “mercy”, toward His people, our “LORD” has, with indescribable kindness, chosen His people and redeemed everyone of them from their sins. It is not possible for man to obtain these blessings for himself, only “the LORD” Himself could secure them. And, “with him is plenteous redemption”; that is, “the LORD” has plenty of will and power, enough to Redeem each and every one which was chosen and “given … in Christ Jesus before the world began” and to Redeem them all from all of their sin! Now, our “hope” looks forward to the “last day” (John 6:44) in which we “shall” hear The Redeemer, “the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34)!
