Hebrews 13:9 “Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.”
No matter how naturally enticing they may appear, it is heavily emphasized to us that “meats” (works systems for Eternal Salvation) “have not profited them that have been occupied therein”. That is, no matter how diligent they are, their works systems for Eternal Salvation gets them no closer to Eternal Heaven. It is clear that our works cannot secure our Home in Heaven: “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19); that is, by the singular act of Jesus Christ (His Sacrifice), all His Elect were fully and finally made righteously fit for Eternal Heaven. To strongly emphasize this blessed truth, we are plainly told that “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). If our works could obtain, secure, or maintain our Home in Heaven, then it would be in our “name”, not Christ’s “name”. Therefore, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.” (Psalm 95:6)! Let us show our love to our Blessed Lord by keeping His “commandments” (John 14:15).
