Hebrews 13:15 “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
We know that “here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come” (Hebrews 13:14), “therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually”! It is only “By him” that we can “offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually”; that is, by the power and wisdom of His Holy Spirit working within us, drawing and motivating us to worshipfully “praise” His Holy “name”! A necessary part of “praise” is “giving thanks to his name”. In this context, we are to “praise” and thank Him for blessing us to be one of His and for giving us the sure-promise of that Holy “continuing city” that our souls yearn for. To “praise” Him “continually” is to, daily issue prayerful “praise” up to Him and to faithfully live our lives in such a way that everything we do declares His Glory and Majesty. To our “God”, our sincere “praise” is as the sweet-smelling savor of an offered “sacrifice” and as the satisfying taste of some delightfully full-ripe “fruit”. As the Psalmist declared, “My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.” (Psalms 145:21)!
