2024-02-27 “refuse him not … turn away from him”

Hebrews 12:25  “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

The Children of God are warned, through out the Bible, to not ignore and disobey God’s Commandments.  Here again is an ominous warning: “refuse not him that speaketh … shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh”!  Every time, when people fail to listen and obey the Word of God, they soon find that great trouble lies just before them.  In our Nation there has been a radical turning away from God, especially among our leadership.  They “refuse” to listen to the Wisdom of the Word of God and they “turn away from him”.  Laws and policies are made and enforced that are blatantly contrary to the Word of God.  And those who make these unbiblical laws and policies are leading great multitudes after them.  Our Nation is not a theocracy, but it was established upon the Biblical Commandments for morality, integrity, brotherly kindness, personal responsibility, and liberty.  Even in Biblical times, those who refused Him and turned away from Him, did not believe that He would do anything to chasten them to correct their behavior.  But, they soon found out that He is God and that He will severely chasten those who openly disobey Him.  Isaiah put it this way, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:  20  But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” (Isaiah 1:19-20).  His blessings are grand and glorious beyond human expression!  Israel had been blessed and protected by God more than any nation on this earth, but when they refused to hear Him and turned away from Him, the Chaldean army came “And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.  20  And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:” (I Chronicles 36:19-20).  We do have reason to be encouraged though, God is still on His Throne and He still overcomes the world (John 16:33) and, even under this cloud of ungodliness that has sat upon us, the name of God is being spoken and He is being worshiped and prayers (instead of a moment of silence) are being humbly offered up to Him.  Let us not get discourage, but always remember that “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (I John 4:4).  Let us hear and obey the Word of God and join our voices with those who boldly proclaim the Holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Most High God!
