Psalms 78:6 “That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: 8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.”
It seems that, just like the Children of God in the Biblical Record, our nation has raised up “a stubborn and rebellious generation”. In this context, to be “stubborn” is to continue to live in an ungodly, immoral, dishonest, and self-serving manner even after having heard the Truth and Commandments of God. To be “rebellious” is to outright reject the Authority and Power and Leadership and Love of God. And, the implication is that there is aggressive vitriol associated with being “stubborn and rebellious”. At this present time the “stubborn and rebellious” are loud and vicious; they seem to be seething with hatred for True Christianity; for, just the presence of those who strive to live faithful to God is a threat to ungodliness. Christianity is a threat to them because, as True Christianity advances, the “stubborn and rebellious” are pushed back and defeated. But, we have reason to “be of good courage” (Psalms 27:14) because our Savior “is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15) “for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Revelation 19:6) and He is our “good Shepherd” (John 10:11) and He gets the victory over every “evil and adulterous generation” (Matthew 12:39). Furthermore, I see Christianity wonderfully rising again in the public media, in the sports world, among movie actors, local governments, and Christian School Teachers are being strengthened to stand up and not compromise their Christian values. The “born again” (John 3:10-8) Children of God are becoming humbly bold again. Christian Churches are broadcasting their worship services in various internet systems, and a great host of people are listening! Those of us in the Christian world, can and should, lovingly debate fundamental doctrines and practices that are taught in the Bible; because, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24); but, WE MUST NOT FIGHT AMONG OURSELVES! Christian infighting is an open door for the “antichrist”! It is true, that there are a few “ravening wolves” in “sheep’s clothing” (Matthew 7:15) among us; but, the Lord knows who they are, and eventually the Lord’s “sheep” will flee from them. We have a common enemy, and He and his minions are called “antichrists” (I John 2:18) because they venomously hate anything to do with Christianity. Because we Christians have various understandings about Christ and Christianity and Worship and Doctrine we usually worship separately; but, let us stand unified under our Lord, King Jesus, Who Is also our High Priest. Let our adversaries see us as resolute and entirely faithful to our beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And, let us pray for one another that our Lord will give us all, the wisdom and strength “to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). Of late, I am encouraged. In spite of this “stubborn and rebellious generation”; as I go about, I hear more and more people speaking who are not ashamed to call the Blessed name of Jesus, the Son of God. I’m a Ham Radio Operator, and I hear operators from across the Country calling upon our Lord and telling one another that they are praying for them. So, let us “take courage” and “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (I Corinthians 15:58) and “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (II Timothy 1:8)! As Paul exhorts us, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” (I Corinthians 16:13)! And Peter exhorts us to “sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15)! And let us not be counted among the “stubborn and rebellious”!!!
