2024-05-27 Remembering Those Who Fought And Didn’t Return

II Corinthians 12:10  “And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

Nehemiah” was leading the Children of Israel to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem; but, as with any Righteous Pursuit, the adversaries of good came and did everything they could to hinder the work and even planned to attack the city.  But, “Nehemiah” told the workers to “Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”.  When the Serians and Ammonites came to attack Israel, king David sent “Joab”, his military commander, to lead the defense against the attacking armies.  “Joab” gathered his men and told them to “Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.” (II Samuel 10:12).  Jesus Christ, just a few hours before He was crucified, used this well-known refrain concerning Himself: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).  Even in our day, this is the very reason that honorable men “fight” the enemies of our nation, and many give their lives on horrific battle fields; they are fighting “for” their “brethren, ” their “sons, and” their “daughters,”their wives, and” their “houses.”.  On this Memorial Day 2024, let us pause for just a little while and remember and give thanks for those who gave their lives to maintain the freedom and security and abundant blessings that we so enjoy, and often take for granted!  And, let us pray that our Heavenly Father will comfort and bless their families and their friends and those who stood by them in their final hour!
