Psalm 91:3 “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
There are times in our lives when trouble sets upon us as a “noisome pestilence”; that is, as a horrific contagious disease that spreads rapidly, crippling and leaving death in its path. While the “noisome pestilence” is raging, pain and weariness and discouragement sets upon us as a miserable crushing cloud. In such dreadful times, we are compelled to “trust” in our God; for, only He is our reliable “refuge” and “fortress”. Although we often must endure for a while, we can count upon Him to “deliver” us in a time and manner pleasing to Him. Sometimes He removes the “noisome pestilence” from us, sometimes He removes us from the trouble, sometimes He gives us strength to endure, and sometimes He lovingly reaches down and delivers us into His “paradise” (Luke 23:43). Even in the most dire times we can rejoice; for, we indeed have an Almighty “friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24); who “will not forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 4:31)!
