Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
Our beloved Lord Jesus Christ “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil” (Acts 10:38); yet “He is despised and rejected of men”! Many were wickedly using religion as a ruse to satisfy their lusts for power, position, and prosperity. Then, when the Object of True Religion presented Himself, they revealed their venomous hatred for the “good” in Him and the “good” that He did; for, the “good” He did contrasted with their vain methods and purposes. His “good” uncloaked them to reveal their true evil and vile nature. As the true High Priest, He defrocked their entire abusive priesthood. As King, He dethroned their self-centered royalty. As the Ultimate and Final Sacrifice for sin, He negated their abusive sacrificial system. When our Lord fulfilled the Old Testament Law Service, the wicked were stripped of their ability to abusively rule over the people. The wicked leaders saw that His absolute goodness was a threat to their lust-motivated power, position, and prosperity. They grotesquely abused the people who opposed them; they stoned, whipped, imprisoned, and murdered any who disobeyed or stood up against them. They despised and rejected Him because “the LORD … anointed” Him “to preach good tidings unto the meek” and sent Him “to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” (Isaiah 61:1); He had great compassion for those who were abused, and He relieved their misery. And even now, “He is despised and rejected of men”, for His “good” reveals the wickedness of the evil for all to see. The wicked, hateful, greedy, immoral, and self-promoters are already defeated, they just don’t know it yet!
