When Israel “brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God” (I Chronicles 16:1), there was great joy and celebrations and offerings unto the Lord. “Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.” (I Chronicles 16:7); in which he declared, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalms 107:1)! That day, they joyfully declared the greatness and goodness of our Lord and prayed “Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise”. When David heralded, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever”, “all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD”! There was no meaningless ‘moment of silence’ or lethargic attendance or debate about the truth of God; but there was a unified cry, that the Lord “is good; for his mercy endureth for ever”. The exceptional Good News to us is that “The LORD shall reign for ever” (Psalms 146:10); our Lord is the same “LORD” that Israel served and worshipped in the days of king David! He is, even now, reigning as “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15), and He is our loving and caring “good shepherd” (John 10:11). Even in the very midst of the troubles and trials of this present life, we can trust Him; and like Israel of old, we ought to make time in our lives to come together to worship Him and to cry aloud for all to hear, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Revelation 19:6)!
