Psalms 147:3 “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
The Lord our most merciful God is our Great Physician; for, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds”! Sometimes our hearts are so severely “broken” and our “wounds” are so large that only our Great Physician can successfully heal them. Our hearts are irreconcilably broken by our own shameful sin, by our broken relationships, by the loss of our livelihood, by the death of those close to us, by coldhearted rejection, etc. But, when it seems that we will never be at peace or happy again, that we are destined for a life of misery; the Holy Spirit, the Great Comforter appears on the miserable scene of our life and tenderly speaks peace to our troubled souls. When it seems that we have been fatally wounded by a great flood of devastating tribulations that have stripped us of even the essentials of life, have ruined our health, and have left us destitute; the Lord appears to miraculously lift us out of the pit of our ruin. We can get so low that we become convinced that all is lost and that there is no hope of recovery; “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” (Malachi 4:2)!
