Ephesians 4: 23 “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
When the Children of God are “born again” (John 3:3) by the Holy Spirit (John 3:8), they are consequently indwelled and equipped by the “Spirit” (Romans 8:9). Paul exhorts us to “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”; that is, respond to this indwelling “Spirit”, be comforted by It, be encouraged by It, and be motivated by It. We are to “Put off … the old man” (Ephesians 4:22); that is, “Put off” our natural way of thinking and seek the wisdom of the “Spirit” that dwells in us. When we are “renewed in the spirit of your mind”, we respond to others with forgiveness and kindness, we anxiously go to the aid of those who are troubled, we anxiously look forward to the next opportunity to attend the worship services, we are not totally overcome in times of trouble, and we hear and read the Word and strive to obey the Word. Oh, how much more pleasant this present life would be if the Lord’s people would “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”!
