2025-04-09 “O thou of little faith”

Matthew 14:29  “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  30  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me31  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Four times the Lord admonished His Disciples for having “little faith” (Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:18).  The essence of our “faith” itself is always strong, for it is essentially “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).  But, reliance upon our God-given “faith” (Hebrews 12:2) is often quite “little”.  But, as we “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18), we more and more learn to trust in our “faith”, to depend upon our “faith”, and to follow after our “faith”.  To overcome “doubting”, we need to spend much time humbly praying and “lifting up holy hands” in sincere worship (I Timothy 2:8), taking up our cross and following our Lord (Matthew 10:38), daily studying and searching the Scriptures (Acts 17:11), making it our top priority to attend and participate in the Lord’s worship services (Hebrews 10:25), and then striving with all diligence to obey the Lord’s Commandments even when we cannot see a way to do it (John 14:15).  The more we learn of the Lord and use the things we learn of Him, the stronger we become in the use of our “faith”.  A strong “faith” is so vitally important to our worshipful service to our Lord and for our welfare in this life, that the Lord told Peter, “I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not” (Luke 22:32)!  Let us likewise earnestly pray for ourselves and for one another “that” our “faith” will “fail not”!
