2025-05-05 – “peace”

Jude 1:1  “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:  2  Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

This “peace” is that calm and indescribably pleasant relationship that we enjoy with the Lord our God.  Adam shattered man’s “peace” with God when “he did eat” (Genesis 3:6); that is, when he knowingly disobeyed God, committing the first sin.  Sin separates us from our peaceful and loving walk with God and from each other in this life (Isaiah 59:2).  When Adam sinned, the penalty of sin passed upon the entirety of his posterity, making us all sinners (Romans 5:19); thus, we are sinners because we are descendants from Adam, and we are sinners by our own behavior (Romans 5:12).  This sinful state ruined man’s peaceful relationship with God and our fellowman.  The ‘good news’ (Gospel) is that, in sacrificing Himself, Jesus Christ restored our (the “sanctified”, “preserved”, and “called”) “peace” with God when He declared “It is finished” (John 19:30); “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5:1).  This blood-bought “peace” permits us to worshipfully and prayerfully speak directly to the Lord our God (Hebrews 4:16) and it enables us to come together in sweet fellowship one with another as we worshipfully encourage each other in the Lord.  David joyfully saw our day when he wrote, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1).
