2019-11-06 “building up yourselves”

Jude 1:20  “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Jude is speaking to the Children of God; for, they are the “elect of God” (Colossians 3:12) and “born again” by the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-8); thus, they have God-given “faith”!  Because they have God-given “faith”, they can indeed build “up” themselves “on” their “most holy faith”; that is, they can exercise their “faith” which strengthens them with endurance against all manner of tribulations that this present world thrusts upon us.  Our “most holy faith” also connotes the Doctrinal truth of Jesus Christ and of His Church-Kingdom as it is recorded in the Word of God.  Thus, to build up ourselves on our “most holy faith” is to rely upon our God-given “faith” as we prayerfully learn the Word of God, obey the Word of God, attend the Lord’s Church to hear the Word of God preached, and strive with all diligence to live outwardly the “faith” that the Holy Spirit has worked within us.  We are given this exhortation in the face of hateful adversaries in the world around us, Jude tells us of “mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.  19  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.” (Jude 1:18-19).  These “mockers” are motivated by “their own ungodly lusts” and they do not have “the Spirit” of God in them; thus, they hatefully seek to destroy anything that is good and godly.  They seek to “turn away” the Children of God “from the faith” (Acts 13:8).  When we fail to build “up” ourselves “on” our “most holy faith”, we open ourselves to these “mockers” and they will mercilessly afflict us with confusion, discouragement, misery, and failure in this present life.  So, lets start and keep “building up” ourselves “on” our “most holy faith”!
