II Kings 19:15 “And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.”
The Assyrian army was approaching Jerusalem to conquer and subjugate it, for “Hezekiah” had rebelled against them and would not submit to them; but, king “Hezekiah prayed before the LORD”. The Assyrians had repeatedly mocked them for trusting in God (II Kings 18:19,20,22,30,32), but “Hezekiah prayed before the LORD”. The Assyrians tried to discourage the people by telling them that “the gods of” all the other “nations” (II Kings 19:12) could not save their nations from the mighty Assyrian army, but “Hezekiah prayed before the LORD”. It is true that the Assyrians had conquered most of the “nations” of the known world. They conquered them because the people in those nations trusted in “gods” that were not “gods” at all; their “gods” were nothing but wood, stone, medal, and their own imaginations; thus, their “gods” could not help them. The Assyrian army could have easily defeated the little army in Jerusalem, but “Hezekiah prayed before the LORD”. “Hezekiah prayed before the LORD”; “And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.” (II Kings 19:35)! “And it came to pass, as” the king of Assyria “was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword” (II Kings 19:35). The Assyrians’ god was no god at all, thus their god could not save them from THE GOD! The same is true today, let us pray to OUR GOD who is THE ONLY GOD and pray for our leaders that they will follow Hezekiah’s example!
