Matthew 1:21  “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The word “his”, being a personal possessive pronoun, refers to that which belongs to “JESUS” Christ, the Son of God, our Savior.  In this case, it is “his people” that He saved “from their sins”.  “his people” are those that God the Father “hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4).  “his people” are the “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father” (I Peter 1:2).  “his people” are those “whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30).  “his people” are those for whom He “wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9).  “his people” are those for whom He “is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief”, those for whom “he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows”, He “was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed”, “and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:3-6).  Concerning “his people”, “there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek” (Romans 10:12).  “his people” are “a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues” (Revelation 7:9).  “his people” are those that God the Father “hath given” Him (John 6:39); that is, “given” Him “before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4).  Of “his people”, He “should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39).  One blessed and most holy day, every one of “his people” will hear “his” voice Command, “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34)!
