Proverbs 2:1  “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

Solomon, under Divine Direction, received these instructions (Commandments) from the Lord and he delivered them to us much like a godly, loving father would instruct his child.  Essentially, these are God’s Commandments to us by Solomon’s pin.  It is important to note, that these are not things that can be done to make the “son” his father’s “son”, they are Commandments to one that is already his father’s “son”.  These are Commandments, which, when obeyed, yield the blessed fruit of a close relationship with the Lord; that is, “if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee” “shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God” (Proverbs 2:5).  Furthermore, in order to “receive my words”, the “son” must have the God-given “hearing ear, and the seeing eye” (Proverbs 20:12).  And, to “hide my commandments with thee”, we must have a God-given “new heart” and “a new spirit” (Ezekiel 36:26); thus, we can hide the word of God in our hearts (119:11).  Said another way, “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33)!  Real joy, peace, and happiness comes when “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God “seek” “the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” above and before all other things in this life.  Our merciful God has created and blessed us with many pleasant and lovely things to experience in this present life; but, His “kingdom” and His “word” must come first; else, all the other things will soon fade and even become a burden to us.
