Psalms 109:2 “For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.”
In every generation “the mouth of the wicked” and “the mouth of the deceitful” speak “against” the faithful Children of God “with a lying tongue”. The “wicked” and “deceitful” were “against” King David and “against” our Lord Jesus Christ; and, we must know that “the wicked” will both speak “against” and fight “against” those who strive to be faithful to the Lord in our day. If the “wicked” were brazen enough to compass our Lord “about also with words of hatred; and” fight “against” Him “without a cause” (Psalm 109:3), we should have no doubt that the “wicked” will do so to us. If the “wicked” were heartless enough to respond to our Lord’s “love” with adversarial wickedness (Psalm 109:4), we should have no doubt that they will do so to us. If the “wicked” would reward our Lord’s “good” with “evil” (Psalm 109:4), we should have no doubt that they will do so to us. The “wicked” persecutors Crucified our Lord Jesus Christ; but, He prayed, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34). The Lord knows which of them were forgiven in an Eternal sense; but, they were Crucifying the “King of kings” (I Timothy 6:15) and there would be consequences for their wickedness. Previously, our Lord plainly prophesied that the destruction of their city would be so complete that “There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” (Matthew 24:2)! And, just as the Lord prophesied, approximately forty years later, the Roman army utterly destroyed the city of Jerusalem. The challenge to us, is to, even in the very face of “the wicked”, “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58). We are to “be ye stedfast, unmoveable” in our Lord’s doctrine, in our conduct in our Lord’s Church, and in our Lord’s Commandments for morality and integrity toward all men. Let us also, follow our Lord’s example and pray and let us “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.” (Isaiah 35:4)!
