Psalm 123:3 “Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. 4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.”
Cyclically, throughout history, faithful Children of God have endured “the scorning of those that are at ease” and “the contempt of the proud”! Faithful Children of God are the most humble, meek, mild mannered, honest, moral, and lovingly helpful people in the world. These faithful Children compose the true Church of Jesus Christ; they strive to lovingly and worshipfully obey the Lord according to His Holy Word. They obey in Doctrine and in Practice, both in the Church and in social and civil matters; they live their faith. Yet, these faithful Children of God quickly confess their imperfection and that they are totally dependent upon the Lord’s mercy and grace; their perfection is the Lord. Those who are “at ease” and “proud” are always offended by the faithful Children of God. It seems that faithfulness to God is seen as a threat by the ungodly. Maybe it is, for the faithful Children of God always point toward Jesus Christ and exhort and encourage all “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God to faithfully obey the Lord’s Commandments; thus, drawing away support of the ungodly. The ungodly are “at ease” in their greed laden aloft positions. They are vainly “proud” of their aloft positions of authority and power. They are condescendingly self-righteous in their scorn and “contempt” for the humble Children of God. But, when we continuously pray, “Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us”, we are appealing to the merciful God Who Created the world, Who opened and closed the sea, Who defeats mighty armies, Who hath saved His people from their sins, and Who raised the dead to life again. Our “God is able to make all grace abound toward” us (II Corinthians 9:8) and He “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20)! Those who are contemptuous and scornful to the faithful Children of God cannot possibly stand against the mighty power of our God as He lovingly protects His faithful Church and people!
