Psalms 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Christian people have every reason to be of good courage and to encourage others; for, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Furthermore, because “God is our refuge” we will not fear even if the earth itself begins to shake and tremble and the mountains begin to collapse and fall into the sea (Psalm 46:2). Even a casual review of Christian history reveals that, repeatedly, in nearly every generation, the Children of God have endured some great crises. And, it seems that there is always someone to stand up to proclaim that they know the mind of God and that the end has come. But, the truth is “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33); that is, we are having one of those tribulations and we are to “Be still, and know that” our Lord is “God” and He will defeat this “tribulation” just as He did all the others! Furthermore, the Lord’s Church is very secure; for, our Lord plainly declared, “upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18); that is, upon the “rock”-solid truth of what Peter had just said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16). If the devil is behind this current crisis, he has already lost the battle; for, it is true that a lot of folks are remaining home for safety; but, those who are remaining home and even more people are listening to the preached word of God. With our modern internet, people are listening to the Preached Word all over the World as preachers stand up and proclaim the sweet Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The devil lost again, and our Lord won! Soon, “many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob” (Isaiah 2:3); then, we will proclaim with David, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1). Therefore, “lift up the hands which hang down” (Hebrews 12:12) and here our Lord’s encouragement, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”!
