2020-4-10 Self-View Compared To God

Proverbs 30:2  “Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.  3  I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy4  Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

Agur” (Proverbs 30:1) saw himself as “more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.  3  I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy”; that is, he was a course and unsophisticated man and he didn’t have a lot of education and he had not attended a theological institution and he certainly didn’t know much about God.  But, he did know who controlled “the wind” and “water” and who created and maintains “the earth”.  The wisdom that really counts, rises from Spiritual Birth, and is thus knowing God and His Son and believing that “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5); furthermore, he warns us to “Add thou not unto his (God’s) words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” (Proverbs 30:6).  Agur’s message is a rebuke to those who think they know everything about everything and have God all figured out.  Real wisdom and real knowledge is knowing that we really don’t have much power and that we don’t know much; but, knowing that God knows everything and has all power over everything!  And, God has given us His Written Word, and those who read and rejoice in IT, find that they have an Almighty Shield to protect them from the ravages of any tribulation or trouble!
