Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
The absolute highest place possible of honor is at “the right hand of the throne of God”. Paul declares that, our beloved Lord Jesus Christ “made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:7-11) and “being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews 1:3). Peter describes it this way, our Lord “is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him” (I Peter 3:22). Our Lord, though He is the Glorious Son Of God and is God, “humbled himself” and entered this world as a man, lived as a man, suffered rejection as a man, endured grotesque tortures as a man, hung on the cross as a man, gave His precious life on the cross as a man, and His body was laid in the tomb as a man. But, then He revealed His true identity, the Son of God, when He was victoriously raised from the dead, then walked among men as the Resurrected Savior, and then He was raised up into Heaven where He “set down at the right hand of the throne of God”. His position “at the right hand of the throne of God” is the place of honor for our Savior Who so grievously suffered and gave His precious life to pay our sin-debt, to redeem us from our sin, and to save us to Eternal Heaven. Said another way, He entirely, completely, wholly, and forever “finished” (John 19:30) all the work necessary to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21); thus, He and He alone obtained the Victory over sin and death. So, when we “come boldly unto the throne of grace”, we will find Him there, and it is there “that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). Let us, often most humbly and faithfully, present ourselves before “the throne of grace”, and there at that Most Holy Place, speak of our Lord’s glory and His grace and His mercy toward us!
