Psalms 38:10 “My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.”
Oh, what do we do when our “strength faileth” us!? The word “strength” refers to all aspects of our “strength”; physical “strength”, mental “strength”, spiritual “strength”, the “strength” of joy, the “strength” of hope, etc. When our “strength faileth” us, a sense of hopelessness washes over us, our natural mind asks “What’s the use of going on?”, we become convinced that tomorrow will be even worse than today, and our natural response is “I can’t!” and “There is no way!”. In such times, when our “strength faileth” us, is when our great “adversary” moves in to “devour” us (I Peter 5:8). But, “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God are NEVER left without recourse; for, as the Psalmist declared, “For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.” (Psalm 38:15) and we are most privileged to personally and immediately come before the Lord and pray “Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.” (Psalm 38:22)! By His Gracious Sacrificial Death, our Lord opened the Great Throne Room of God to us (Hebrews 4:16), there is where we find the very seat of Infinite Power, Infinite Wisdom, Eternal Love, and Amazing Grace! It is to this Blessed Place where we “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). It is in this Blessed Place where we learned to “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2) and we hear the Lord say to us, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (II Corinthians 12:9). The more time we spend in prayer at “the throne of grace”, the more convinced we become that we “can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth” us (Philippians 4:13)! While it is certainly true that we pass through some awfully dark times in which our “strength faileth” us; it is even more true that the “grace” and “strength” of our Lord never fails and He “will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5)!
