II Thessalonians 2:16 “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,”
Our Heavenly “Father” “hath given us everlasting consolation”; that is, He “hath” soothed our hearts that are broken by sin, He “hath” Spiritually drawn us close to Himself to comfort us, He “hath” spoken peace into our troubled hearts, He “hath” granted clarity to our confused minds, He “hath” eased the pain of sin’s shame, and He “hath” proven to be the “friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). By the “evidence” and “substance” of the “faith” that God has given us (Hebrews 11:1), we are greatly consoled in knowing that “our Lord Jesus Christ himself” “hath” saved “his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21) and that our “Redeemer liveth” and that one blessed and holy day we will see Him with our own eyes (Job 19:23-27). It is “everlasting consolation” because, Jesus declared on the Cross “It is finished” (John 19:30); thus, it is absolutely impossible to undo or reverse what He has “finished” for us; that is, nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39) and “that of all which” “the Father” “hath given” our Lord, He “should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39). Thus, we worshipfully cry aloud with the Heavenly host, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty” (Revelation 4:8), we thank Thee “O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned” (Revelation 11:17), “Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints” (Revelation 15:3), and “Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments” (Revelation 16:7).
