2020-06-24 “stablish you in every good word”

II Thessalonians 2:17  “Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Paul continues his prayer for the Children of God in the Church at Thessalonica.  He prayed that the Lord would “stablish” them “in every good word”.  To “stablish” is to make strong, resilient, and reliably consistent “in every good word”.  Those who are stablished “in every good word” are known to be “stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58).  Those who are stablished “in every good word” have been blessed of God to learn the “word” of God, to understand the “word” of God, to love the “word” of God, and to conform themselves to the “word” of God.  A builder is very careful in site selection, site preparation, building design, quality of materials used, method of construction, and in building appearance.  Similarly, our Lord is Sovereignly careful in the building of His Church (Matthew 16:18).  He sends us “pastors and teachers” “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:  13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:  14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” (Ephesians 4:11-14).  These “pastors and teachers” are Commanded to “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (II Timothy 4:2).  That is “Preach the word”; not philosophy, not public opinion, not politics, not carnal motivation, not best guesses, and not personal opinion; but, we are to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3)!  For security, peace, and happiness, we must remain in the “word”-building that our Lord has built, for it is securely stablished to withstand all the storms of life, assaults of the wicked, and confusions hurled at us by those who have no love of God in them!
