II Thessalonians 2:17 “Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.”
Our “good works” are like bright lights shining in our homes, communities, and Churches that encourages and incites other “born again” Children of God to “glorify” our “Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We are to be “fruitful in every good work” (Colossians 1:10); that is, much like a farmer labors in his field to bring forth much fruit, we are to diligently labor in our Lord’s ‘field’ to bring forth much fruit unto Him. Our life of service to our Lord is to follow “a pattern of good works” (Titus 2:7), in which we are “zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14) and “careful to maintain good works” (Titus 3:8) all to the glory of our Lord. It is one thing to believe and to have “faith”; but, “faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:17). Our “good works” include worshipfully and prayerfully learning the Doctrine of Christ (II John 1:9), faithfully attending and being a part of our Lord’s Church (Hebrews 10:25), actively showing our love for one another as our Lord loves us (John 13:34; 15:12), and anxiously taking up our “cross” to faithfully serve our Lord (Matthew 10:38). And, we are to “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15). As we have been bountifully blessed by our gracious Lord, we are to “be rich in good works” (I Timothy 6:18) in our Lord’s service!
